PROJECTS
A Human Made This
Sustainability, MerchandiseThe stuff we buy is responsible for up to 60 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions and between 50 and 80 percent of total land, material, and water use. A Human Made This is a pilot programme studying the environmental and social effects of branded merchandise specifically. This project is based on the principle that celebrity and entertainment brands should follow sustainable practices in all aspects of their supply chains, which contain many interacting factors from materials, sourcing, production, transportation, and distribution.
We analyse the environmental impact of brand merchandise and look at social factors and consumer behaviour. Brands can support this project either through licensing or direct partnership.- Compelling Narratives
PROJECTSStories for Good
Communication DesignThere are around 27,000 species known to be threatened due to human activity. Most people struggle to name even 10% of these animals, let alone specific species, but can typically identify tigers, leopards, and gorillas. Why is that?
These creatures have become symbols of wildlife conservation efforts. They come to mind easily because we know their stories. Filmmakers, creators, and the media have made sure of this, with popular documentaries like Planet Earth and films like The Jungle Book, King Kong, and Planet of the Apes featuring these animals so prominently that they’ve captured the affection of large audiences and influenced real-world behaviors. Storytelling is a powerful tool for effecting change, and may even be the most important one we have. Our goal is to identify persuasive storytelling elements across various contexts and integrate them into effective communication design strategy.- Social Impact Conversations
PROJECTSNo Stupid Questions
For many people, serious topics like "the environment" or "social justice" are abstract conversations with divisive opinions and ideas. Not all of us have the same information on these subjects. We don't have expectations that everyone knows, or should know, or cares, or cares as much as we do. People all have different priorities. What we do want is to give people access to the information that will help build their understanding and confidence in engaging in these conversations.
This programme draws on research and real-life experience. We have worked to distill the most up-to-date studies and knowledge into easily comprehended, bite-sized sessions that cover general and context-sensitive concerns. Most importantly, these are workshops designed to create space for everyone's questions - especially the ones that feel stupid or silly. We periodically hold these events publicly, but we invite anyone interested in building an informed and effective culture in their workplace to speak to us about hosting a private session. - Compelling Narratives
